What does it feel like?

Most people find acupuncture to be deeply relaxing and are able to rest or fall asleep during the treatment.  Tiny, sterile, single use, disposable acupuncture needles are used.  Some patients report a small tingling sensation upon insertion, which dissipates within seconds.  Many patients enjoy their treatments and look forward to coming back.

What should I wear?

Try to wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing, enough so that you can roll your sleeves and pant legs up to your elbows and knees.  This helps the acupuncturist to reach important acupuncture points in those areas that may help your condition.

How should I prepare for the appointment?

It's best if you have a little bit of food in your system before a treatment.  Try to have a small snack so that you are not coming in on an empty stomach.

How long does it take?

For your first treatment, plan on being here for 1.5 hours to have time to discuss your concerns and health history as well as give you a fabulous treatment.  All continuous appointments will take about 1 hour.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no easy answer to this.  The number of treatments needed varies with each person and condition.  For acute problems, you may only need to be seen a few times.  For more chronic issues, it's likely you will need more treatments.  This is something you can discuss with your practitioner on the first visit. Treatments build on one another and the results last longer after a series of treatments.
